Q and A

Who Are You?

My name is Talia, and I really don't like trying to fill out "about me"s. Thus, an alternative "about me" in Q and A form. In general, I am a musically inclined geek. I like travel, running, reading, ridiculous sci-fi books, out-of-doors, cooking, tons of other junk.

What Kind Of A Cool Kid Are You?

According to the official Myers-Briggs personality test, I am an INFP, which I generally feel pretty true to (except for some of the "whimsy" crap. I'm too logical sometimes. Additional note: I like that the INFP page states that "INFPs may appear to have been imported from another galaxy!"). I am definitely an introvert, and it has even been suggested that I am a misanthrope. I have been described by other people as being silly, nervous, clever, quirky, energetic, and undoubtedly somewhere along the way, insane. Generally, I am jovial. Sometimes I'm super-reserved and people think I hate them, but that usually just means I have nothing to say. I want to believe that people are good, and it takes a lot to anger me. But sometimes I do walk around thinking to myself that I would enjoy occasionally hitting someone in the face. Food for thought.

important note (in bright red!): if you are an extrovert and believe you have a poor understanding of introverts, or even if you are an extrovert and believe you have an awesome understanding of introverts, you should read this.

What Do You Do?

I am a student in the system of higher education. If you must know more specifics, I am working for a Bachelor of Music in performance with the cello. I've played the cello since I was five years old, but this did not stop me from seriously taking up a few other instruments on the side. I'm not sure what I want to do with the cello at this point. I'm basically just working as hard as I can and then seeing where it takes me. I have a few secret musical aspirations that may or may not just be pointless side-shows to my main cello...thing. My back-up plan in life is to play bass in a freaky jazz band of some sort, or something.

What Instruments Do You Play?

Cello is my main drag. I started electric bass when I was 12, and am not too shabby at that. I was in my high school's top jazz band for all four of my years there. It taught me to be rhythmic and bass-conscious. If anything, please be impressed by the fact that I play a fretless bass. Please? I took piano lessons sometime early on, too. I have retained amazing faking skills. I have a mandolin, and occasionally play around with that. I have also been known to cross-dress and sing in madrigal dinners.

You Seem Fairly Easily Entertained...

THAT WAS NOT IN QUESTION FORM. I love to be entertained. I like irony, word-play, wit, puns, and blantant sarcasm in some form. And also people getting hurt (it's true). Uh, yeah. There are a lot of things that everyone else thinks funny that make me go "huh." Like every single recently released "adult comedy" film. Seriously. I really love MST3k, and everything it encompasses. And also Penny Arcade. And particular stand-up comics including: Paula Poundstone, Eddie Izzard, Dana Carvey, Steve Martin, and David Cross. I also love humorous books, such as writing by Dave Barry, Terry Pratchett, Christopher Moore, and many others. Stuart Davis is also ingenius. Generally, we here like snark.

Your Layout Is The Most Fabulous Thing I Have Ever Laid Eyes Upon. Did You Design It Yourself, And What's The Theme?

Thank you. I did design it myself, and it is nice to finally be able to construct layouts that do not kill people's eyes or browsers. The theme is from my favorite game in the entire world, Katamari Damacy. You know, that game where you roll up garbage? I think Wikipedia offers a better explanation of the game than I ever could.

What Are Your Aspirations In Life?

Musically? Uuuh, I don't know. Performing orchestral and chamber music is interesting to me. As is helping others figure out the technicalities of cello playing, so teaching. I am also extremely interested in new music, jazz, and where performance is going in the 21st century. I definitely idolize performing groups such as Turtle Island, Kronos Quartet and Bang on a Can All-Stars. I also like electronic/computer music. And history. And folk music. And early traditions. I like a lot of things, and have no specific visions of what I want to do, so I think I could go anywhere.

Aside from that, to travel to new places. And return to some old places. I would really love to live abroad at some point, especially in a place where I could better my abilities in speaking Japanese (aka, Japan). I want to run a marathon. I want to re-read the entire Wheel of Time series. I want to temporarily become Mark Summer. I hope to continue in never eating a twinkie. That is my final answer.

Isn't The Name Of Your Blog Also A Blonde Redhead Song?

Uh...yes. You can see that I was extremely original when I was sixteen. And creative. Neeext.

Except...it's over. The end!
