that was a night to remember. cavaliers lost to blue devils. their first loss in year. color me stunned. and pleased.
phantom's sound was incredible. their drill was a little sloppy, and i hope they're out there fixing it, because the music is truely fantastic. i loved it. and their uniforms are very impressive in person. they need to polish the show visually, and that's literally my only complaint. when the CD comes out, it'll be the first show i listen to.
my boys in madison jumped up a spot from san antonio. i'm quite proud of their leap from the pits of hell. i sometimes feel that corps ballads lack a decent melody, but i love the ballad. i would have liked to hear more of that sizzling madison brass. i would have liked to hear a lot of the oldschool madison style, but i won't be too critical of the comeback kid.
i really enjoyed the crossmen. they got some big-time crowd appeal. i know that judges don't judge on crowd appeal. but really. that was a fun show.
cavaliers. yikes. congrats on the winning streak, but this is a long-overdue defeat. they can go out there and rehearse that show until their feet bleed, but i think the show itself is the problem, not the execution. but reading the caption scores, obviously the judges and i feel differently. i didn't think the cavies so much did *badly*, as the BD had a more appealing show. this was the first time seeing their show, and i really did keep an open mind. and i do have nice things to say. the drill being it... the drill was very innovative, and doubly difficult. i was [b]very[/b] impressed by that aspect. my main complaint with them the past few years has been that the music to me has been completely deviod of any passion or soul. it's flawless and very difficult, but has never made me [i]feel[/i] anything at all. i'm trying to remember, but i can't recall a good or bad thing about the music. wait, yes i can - that soprano solo flopped a bit. *shrug* maybe he was having a bad night. but i can't remember a bit about the overall music, and that's not good. and there was no bang at the end. it's cool to try new things, and i like that aspect of them, but that was not a wise decision. so, yes. overall, an interesting show, but not really worthy of first. whether they claim first at finals or not, who knows. second's not such a bad place to be.

i saw pirates of the caribbean last night. seriously, the best movie of the summer. simply because it's pirate-y. and because orlando bloom is raaawr in it. johnny depp was the weirdest fucking pirate ever. you have to see it to understand. it's like he's always drunk. kind of like a dominic!pirate. but he was my favorite character, for reasons unknown.

took jupiter to marica's today. it's a friend of a family member and here in town. it's a good home for him. he was all scared and shit and we had to leave him. i hope he doesn't think i'm abandoning him. i hope she knows he likes to sleep on your neck and bites too hard sometimes. on the way home, mom proceeded to tell me about how friskey wasn't doing so well, and that we'd have to have him put down after the next seizure.

ok. so i just finished OotP today. and i won't spoil it for anyone who may happen upon my blog. but i was devastated. i still can't think about it. i feel like i'm the one who lost the loved one. i'm SUCH a pussy. i cried for an hour or so. tissues all over the place. i cry at everything. movies, books, commercials, flowers being stepped on....... just so you know i'm a full-time hormone junkie. but i still can't believe that s/he's dead. it's going to take some time for me to cope.
and now that you all KNOW i'm crazy......
i bought how to lose a guy in ten days, because i LOVE kate hudson. and i got a tank for lollapalooza and little stick-on earrings to stick on my face. so yay, i'm all set to jam to incubus and the donnas and such on July 12. hey, i can be a concert flasher now! wait.... i'm not 14 and it's not a blink concert. n/m.

did i blog about the assistant director of bands position at eiu? allen got sacked. or rather, was asked to step down. or so i've been told. but that's old news. the guy we all think will be hired sounds SO great. he has to have some massive flaw. i wasn't at the audition band (*frowl*) but from what i've been told so far, he says he enjoys taking bands that are struggling and building up their programs, has lots of experience, won't fuck with our traditions (which probably means no more alma mater singing!), and is just keen and swell in general.
i just wanted an excuse to say "keen" and "swell". but yes. i'm so excited for band camp.
